When April Berkowski was three years old, her grandfather gave her a small red piano. He must have known. Sitting in front of the piano in her bedroom, she spent countless hours learning simple nursery rhymes, playing scales and inviting her family to listen to her bedroom concerts. The art of music making was awakened in her soul. Later, at age ten, she found a whole new form of musical expression through the violin. A graduate of Elmhurst College with a degree in Music and Business, April has made her lifelong passion into a career.

Elegant Ensembles was started in 1995 as a way to help connect folks in the Chicago area with talented local musicians passionate about their work. These days, over 3,500 performances later, she has the joy of working with a talented roster of artists who create beautiful art which goes in the ears and straight to the heart.

Married in 1995 to Ron, and the mother to Charysse, April recently picked up the guitar and the mandolin. Aside from music making, you can find April on the tennis court 3-5 days a week, discovering new cooking techniques in her kitchen, nurturing plants in her raised garden beds, traveling, and hanging out with friends listening to live music around the country all year long.
